Our Mission Statement

If you, a family member or friend is in need of a skilled nursing facility for long term care we offer you our list of Helpful Resources and below, a few suggestions for making an informed decision.

Tips for Choosing a Nursing Home

This can be one of the toughest decisions of your life, do not hesitate to ask questions and revisit before you make the choice. Whether it is long term or short term care you are in need of, it is still going to be home, so do all you can to make an informed decision.

  1. Find out about different nursing homes in the area online by going to the Medicare Web site at www.medicare.gov and select "Nursing Home Compare" option. This will give you detailed information regarding quality, resident characteristics, staffing levels & state inspection reports.

  2. Visit the nursing home you are interested in or have someone visit for you. This will give you or your family an opportunity to see the staff, residents & facility. Visiting in person is the best way to see the quality of care and life that the residents are receiving.

  3. Visit again on a different day, at a different time of day. This will allow you the opportunity to see different staff and different activities.

  4. Ask permission to attend a resident council meeting or a family council meeting and listen to the concerns of the family or residents and observe how they are addressed.

Always trust your senses when visiting.
  • Do the residents seem happy and/or comfortable?
  • Does the staff appear to be friendly and busy attending to the residents needs?
  • Are the hallways free of clutter?
  • Overall, how does the facility smell?
  • How does the food look?
  • Ask if you can eat a meal being served.
  • Do you hear laughter?
  • Do you hear singing?
